A note from your Social Studies teachers:
We are deeply saddened that we cannot be in the classroom with you to talk about what is happening across the country. While these expressions of frustration & demands for justice are not new, they are harder to ignore than at other times throughout history. As social studies teachers, we often ask you to explore the history of oppression and look at the creation of systems & institutions that disadvantage people on the basis of race, gender, religion, or orientation. We strive to teach not only about racism, its history and its present manifestations, but to also point to solutions and methods of action as a way to empower you to make change. We promise to work harder to ensure your social studies education at IHS does not shy away from uncomfortable conversations about truth, justice, activism, healing and reconciliation.
Below are resources we have compiled as a department for your continued understanding of the history and current reality of race in America.
